Agudath Achim are located in the Noel Memorial Library Archives on the
campus of Louisiana State University, Shreveport.
POLICIES
The AAA accepts the Society of American Archivists 1992 Code
of Ethics as the standard for professional behavior and conduct. The AAA
is committed to honest, open and equitable dealings with researchers,
donors, colleagues and any others with whom we come in contact.
All visitors to the AAA will
be asked to read and sign the rules of the AAA. The AAA is a closed stacks
repository. No one may enter the stack area except authorized persons.
All visitors and researchers must remain in the AA research area. A staff
member will bring requested material to this area. Researchers will be
limited to a maximum of three Hollinger boxes per request.
Records must be handled with
care. They must not be traced over or marked upon. Drinking, eating and
smoking is prohibited in the research area. No book, document, manuscript
or any other item may be removed from the AAA. Researchers must return
all materials, in their original order and condition, to a staff member
after use.
Fees will be charged for photocopying
and postage. Special requests will be handled individually with additional
charges included as necessary.
DONATIONS
The AAA is interested in enlarging its collection. Donations
of materials relating to Agudath Achim and its history are gratefully
accepted. Donors will be asked to sign a Donor Agreement stipulating how
the donation may be accessed.
Appropriate donations include:
the papers of synagogue rabbis, cantors, officers, and other personnel;
synagogue committee records and minutes; photos and audio-visual recordings
of synagogue-sponsored or -housed events; legal documents; financial records;
religious school and cemetery records; newspaper clippings; and correspondence
by and between synagogue members.
At this time, the AAA is not
collecting materials related to the Shreveport Jewish community in general.
It cannot accept materials dealing with such community-wide organizations
as Hadassah, the NCJW, or the Jewish Federation, nor those relating to
B’nai Zion Temple.
A giant THANK
YOU to the Meadows Museum which has offered us 6 display cases
on semi-permanent loan for displaying the special objects in our archival
collection. The cases became available January 2001.
We wish to thank Tommie Sue & Gerald
Brooks for their generous donation of a pew from the Line Ave. synagogue.
The Brooks' purchased the pew, cared for it, and are now giving it back
to us. We greatly appreciate this special gift.
